High Court orders release of Ndume from Kuje prison

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to Senator Ali Ndume, who was ordered on Monday to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja for failing to produce former Chairman, defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrashed Maina, for who he stood surety.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, was remanded in the prison custody after the court discovered that Maina has jumped bail.

In a ruling on Friday, Justice Okon Abang granted the application for bail pending appeal, filed by Maina.

Justice Abang said he was exercising the court’s discretionary power in favour of Ndume based on his good conduct in the course of the trial of Maina, who is being prosecuted for allegedly laundering about N2billion.
