Rivers council to profile vigilante members for efficiency

Members of the dissolved vigilante group, OSPAC across Emohua local government area of Rivers State have been asked to submit themselves for fresh profiling and reorientation by relevant government security agencies to reposition the  group for greater efficiency.

 Senior  Special Assistant on Security to the chairman of Emohua local government area, Chief Emmanuel Okogbule, disclosed this after a meeting with heads of security agencies and special security units at the council secretariat on Thursday.

He said that the profiling of members of the vigilante group will enable government security agencies to fish out those hiding under the name of the vigilante groups to promote crime and criminality in the area.

The meeting which also had in attendance heads of the suspended community vigilante group was held at the instance of the chairman of Emohua local government area, Tom Aliezi, to review the security situation of the area following the alleged involvement of some members of the vigilante groups in  criminal activities in the area.

The leadership of the different vigilante groups also agreed to the setting up of a task force made up of the different security agencies to monitor the activities of members of the vigilante group after undergoing fresh profiling.

Chief Tom Aliezi, who presided over the meeting reassured residence of the area of his administration’s commitment to sustaining the already existing peace and security in the area, as the local government administration under his watch will not relent in providing necessary logistics support to the different security agencies in the area.

He said the dissolution of the vigilante group was not to witch-hunt anybody.

The council boss commended governor Nyesom Wike, for the establishment of Rivers State security architecture codenamed Operation Sting and the consistent provision of logistics support to the different security agencies, which has impacted positively in the restoration of peace and security in Emohua local government area in particular and other parts of Rivers State.

The meeting had in attendance; District Officer (DO) Civil Defence, Side Chief (SC) Department of State Services(DSS), Commander Anti-Cultism Unit (Operation Sting), Sector Commander, JTF, Operational Officer State Intelligence Bearue (SIB), Area commanders of Ahoada and Isiokpo police Area Command, DPO, Rumuji Divisional Headquarters of Nigerian Police Force, and heads of different special security units.
