The Assistant Inspector General of police (AIG), Zone 16, Austin Agbonlahor, has enjoined all retired police officers in the zone, comprising Rivers and Bayelsa states, to take optimal advantage of the opportunity to enroll into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The police, in a statement signed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Ikwo Kevin Lafieghe, disclosed that the 2nd phase of the nationwide registration and capturing exercise was to capture all retired police officers who were not captured in the 1st phase of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
According to the statement, the exercise is scheduled to hold from Monday, March 15, 2021, to Thursday, March 18, 2021, in all the police commands across the zone.
The scheme is a passionate initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, aimed at ensuring that all retired police officers, including their spouses, are not denied access to quality and sustainable health care services, irrespective of their rank on retirement, the statement said.
“It is also worthy of note that the scheme is covered by the Police Health Maintenance Organization (POLICE-HMO). Code 073 is absolutely free without any form of deduction from retirees’ pension.
“To this end, the affected retired police officers are enjoined to visit the closest Police Area Command in their state of residence for enrolment. They are to carry along with them; their letter of retirement and retiree’s I.D card for identification”, the statement added.
