By: Felix Ikpotor

Few days after a botched protest by the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition (RSEYLC) against construction giant, Julius Berger over lack of Corporate Social Responsibility, president of the coalition , Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana has raised the alarm over threat to his life and members of his family and his group.

Yammabana who raised the alarm in a statement said,“In the afternoon hours of the 31st day of March 2021 while driving from my residence, I noticed that a black-coloured Toyota Corolla was driving after me, and I immediately drove into a filling station along Ada-George road.

“When the men noticed that I’ve entered into a filling station they drove past the filling station and stopped, waiting for me to drive out. When I noticed this, I left my car and took a taxi and left the filling station. I have made an official report to the security operatives on this.

“After the botched protest by members of the RSEYLC against Julius Berger Nigeria Plc over non-compliance to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Local Content Laws and the subsequent abduction of my secretary, Comrade James Tobin, I have been receiving threatening calls from private lines on all my mobile phone lines, my family members are facing a similar threat to their lives, our lives are in danger!

“My secretary that was whisked away by unknown men during our Protest against the brazen act of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc yesterday, Comrade James Tobin is now lying in-between life and death.

“Finally, I am using this medium to call on all security agencies, the international community, especially the German Embassy and the European Union, Amnesty International and all men of goodwill and lovers of justice to come to my rescue and that of members of my family and members of Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition.

“In the same breath, I am using this opportunity to inform the general public that if anything happens to me, my family and members of my Coalition, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and the Rivers State Government should be held responsible”.
