The Rivers State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on State House of Assembly to enact a law banning open grazing in the state to curb the menace and security threat posed by open cattle grazing.t
The State CAN Chairman, Apostle Stanley Dimkpa made the appeal in his Easter message to the state.
He said: “Open grazing has destroyed our rural farmlands which have affected crop production and have increased hunger.
“I also on behalf of CAN Rivers State, appreciate Governor Nyesom Wike including all the concerned heads of government agencies for their efforts and commitments toward the safety of life, properties in the state.
“I call on the state committee on black soot to urgently collaborate with the appropriate federal government agencies to bring an end to soot as the residents of the state are endangered by the continuous increase of black soot in the state whose danger is worse than Covid-19 pandemic.
“Brethren in the Lord, I thank the Almighty Jehovah for granting us the privilege to witness and celebrate the Easter of this year 2021 without being in a lock-down like the previous year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hitherto threatened the peace of our existing world over.
“Consequently, I most humbly join the President of CAN Rev. Dr Samson Ayokunle and other faithful of our Lord Jesus Christ to wish the entire Christian Community in Rivers State and beyond Happy Easter Celebration.”
