Police deploy 17000 officers ahead of LGA elections

Rivers State Police Command has rolled out directives ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

This was issued in a press release, yesterday, by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni.

Omoni said that a total of seventeen thousand five hundred personnel have been deployed to ensure the maintenance of Law and Order before and after the Elections.

He stated that restrictions of movement of persons, vehicles either on land and waterways between the hours of 12 midnight on Friday, April 16 and 2pm on Saturday, April 17 have been placed.

“Also, politicians and important personalities in the state have been barred from going to any voting center with their security detail.

*Entry and Exit points in the state will be completely blocked until the end of the Election exercise,” he said.

He also disclosed that violators of these rules will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The state’s Police Commissioner, CP Eboka Friday, further enjoined the members of the public to cooperate with these rules, as it is intended to ensure a free, fair and violence-free election.
