RSIEC issues certificate of return to Michael John Williams, others

Following the declaration of results of the just concluded local government elections in the State, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has issued Certificates of Return to winners of the April 17 polls.

The Chairman-Elect of Degema LGA, Hon. Michael John Williams, his Vice, Mrs. Maureen Obuba Harry, were among 22 other chairmen and their vice in the 23 LGAs of the State, who were issued their Certificates of Return.

Presenting the Certificates at the Commission’s head office in Port Harcourt, Monday, the Chairman of RSIEC, Justice George Omereji (Rtd), while congratulating the winners also thanked the security agencies for their professional conduct, which he said, aided the commission to discharge its duties in a safe and secure atmosphere.

It would be recalled that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the State, swept all 23 chairmanship and 319 councillorship positions keenly contested by 17 political parties in Rivers State as announced by RSIEC on Sunday.

According to the results declared by RSIEC, Hon. Michael John Williams of the PDP pulled a total of 21,159 votes to beat his closest rival of the Labour Party (LP) who trailed behind with 913.
