Rivers: Monarch gives Gani Topba 7 days ultimatum, threaten court action over comment

People of Uegwere Community in Khana local government area of the state have dismissed reports that they harbour a particular cult group in the area.

Chairman Uegwere Council of Traditional Rulers, Chief Raphael Kponee, stated this while reacting to a statement made by Chief Gani Topba, a stakeholder in Zaakpon Community, that leaders of Bua Boue Kingdom should be invited by security agencies for a meeting on insecurity in the area.

Chief Kponee maintained that the Uegwere Community does not have cultists, as the five Communities that make up the Bua Boue Kingdom are the worst hit with cult clashes, as many have fled their homes and are currently taking shelter in Bori.

He also opposed to a meeting for Bua Boue kingdom, saying that Chief Gani Topba does not have the right to summon any meeting for Bua Boue kingdom leaders.

The Uegwere people gave Gani Topba seven days ultimatum to reverse his statement or face legal actions.

“The statement by Gani Topba is an indictment on my Community, Uegwere is not known for cultism and does not also harbour one. I have in my Community academics, technocrats, businessmen and women, farmers, traditionalist, elites, pastors and other religious leaders.

“Under what platform is the Gani Topba inviting Uegwere people for a meeting? Is he the Mene Bua Boue or the Gbene Mene Babee kingdom? He does not have the authority to invite Uegwere people for a meeting or whatsoever. We give him seven days ultimatum to reverse the said statement and failure to act, we shall institute a legal suit against him”

Recall there was a shootout in Ogoni last weekend which claimed lives in Kaani and Luumene Communities.

Base on the killings, Chief Gani Topba called for a peace and reconciliation meeting among leaders of Bua Boue kingdom, saying that the security agencies should invite traditional leaders of the area for questioning over the insecurity.

He also claimed that Uegwere Community is been dominated by Iceland group.

According to a Senior Police Officer, Detectives at Bori Police Division have arrested two suspected cult leaders in connection to the killings in the area.
