Rivers police arrest three-man ‘one chance’ gang

Men of the Rivers state police command on Wednesday, arrested a three-man robbery gang along the Rumuosi axis of the  East-West Road in Obior Akpor local government area of Rivers state.

The gang who are specialists in robbing unsuspecting road users of their personal belonging including cash through a commercial transportation system known as ‘one chance’, were accosted after robbing their victim of 1,500,000 (one million five hundred thousand naira).

‘One chance’ motorists are a group of fraudulent robbers who pose as regular motorists who rob and then throw their victims off the moving vehicle.

The arrested suspects were identified as Chukwudi Ani, Edwin Chibuike Okike and Chidimma Eze. The suspects confessed that the East-West road is their route.

According to a statement issued by SP Nnamdi Omoni, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, the trio were apprehended at Rumuosi in Obio/Akpor Local Government by 8 PM.

While commenting on the matter, SP Nanamdi Omini said “they were nabbed after successfully robbing one Mr Simon Ibrahim who was on his way to make a deposit in the bank but was turned by the gang in their Mazda car.

” Luck, however, ran out on them when the victim raised an alarm that alerted the police and they were immediately arrested and taken to Choba police station.”
