Lawmaker visits farmland ravaged by herdsmen in Ogoniland, order them to vacate

By: Admin

Following reports  of the destruction of crops and farmlands by herdsmen grazing in parts of Ogoniland in Rivers State , the member Representing Khana Constitution II, in the State House of Assembly,  Prince Ngbor Piccolo has visited the scene of the vandalized farmlands located within Baa, Kpaa, Seme, and Dae villages all in Nyokhana District.

The lawmaker while speaking with newsmen during the visit said he received calls from village women and farmers weeping of how cattles have eaten up their crops, rendering their future hopeless, and had to respond swiftly to avert any breakdown of law and order in the area.

Phspectator recalls that around September and October, 2020, some cattle rearers flooded this same zone with over 3000 cattles, feeding on the crops of the community farmers and destroying their source of livelihood until Hon. Piccolo’s intervention which saw their departure around November 2021, an act that is now repeated with the current influx of over 4000 cows by same herdsmen.

The lawmaker earlier while addressing  the leader of the  cattle rearers one Mr. Usman, ordered the immediate evacuation of the cattles.

However, it was reported that Mr. Usman pleaded for a little time to get his cattles out of the area.

As at the time of the lawmaker’s visit, over 3000 cattles were on the farmland, while the rearers claimed they had settled some unknown youths  who came armed from the various communities within the area.
