It is over one week now the family of a commercial bus driver, Christian Otene who was killed by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, are yet to e compensated despite police ultimatum.
The slain driver was shot dead last week Tuesday along NTA Road, Port Harcourt by personnel of the corps attached to the Rivers State Taskforce on Street Trading and Illegal Motor Park.
The Rivers State Police Command who waded into the incident was reported to have arrested the killer NSCDC personnel and through its Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka gave NSCDC a one-week ultimatum to compensate the bereaved family of the deceased.
Confirming the expiration of the ultimatum, the father of the deceased, Godwin Otene said the ultimatum elapsed on Thursday.
The bereaved father said, “the Commissioner of Police told the NSCDC and the family of the killer security agent to make sure they compensate us on or before April 17.
“My late son’s widow and their son travelled all the way from Benue State to Port Harcourt because of this settlement and as I speak to you, neither NSCDC nor the family of the killer security agent had called us.
“We will go back to the CP to tell him that we have not been compensated and hear what the CP will tell us.
It could be recalled that the killing of Christian Otene sparked a wild protest by his fellow commercial drivers who decided to withdraw their services a day after he was killed.
