A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced two female defendants, Ada Ebere and Favour Godwin to 10 and 15 years imprisonments respectively for charges bordering on conspiracy, stealing and child trafficking.
The two, including another defendant, Kodirichi Nwankwo who escaped jail sentence, have been facing prosecution for their role in the abduction and sale of four-year old Uwana Emmanuel at Igbo-Etche in 2018.
Our correspondent reports that the ladies, found guilty of all three charges of conspiring, stealing and child trafficking, burst into tears after the Chief Magistrate, Felicitas Amanze, announced the court ruling.
Though the court discharged the first defendant, Kodirichi Nwankwo, for showing genuine remorse during the trial of the case, she was ordered to report every month to the court for two years.
Chief Magistrate Felicitas Amanze said she is mindful of sending Nwankwo back to the correctional centre because of the almost four-year old child she since delivered in prison custody while the case lasted.
