…Direct completion of Andoni road before December

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has given reasons why the promised Okrika to Port Harcourt road project has not been completed years after it was started.
Wike who was reacting to criticisms that he was only concentrating more on the upland and has refused to link coastal communities to the upland, blamed the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the delay in the completion of the project.
“ Our promise to complete the bridge that connects Okrika to Port Harcourt has not materialised because the NDDC which started the project declined to give the state permission to take it over.
“The NDDC alleged that they’ve already paid 80% of the total contract sum but insisted that they cannot handover the project to Rivers State Government until they have concluded and submitted the report of their ongoing forensic audit,”he said.
Wike stated this during the flagg-off of the new Okrika town sand filling and land reclamation project.
The governor had earlier flagged-off the construction of Okochri internal roads in the area.
Similarly, the governor has ordered the contractor handling the Andoni section of the Ogoni/Opobo/Andoni Unity Road to complete the road before December 2021.
He gave the directive while inaugurating the Opobo section of the road, stressing that the road is important to link the coastal areas to the upland.
Wike said the commissioning of the road has silenced critics who said his administration is concentrating only on upland areas.
