20-year-old girl accuses Port Harcourt based pastor of rape

A 20-year-old lady has accused one Mr. Tony Titus Daniel from Akwa Ibom State, said to be the pastor and general overseer of a new generation church in Port Harcourt of conspiring with a chorister who doubles as his personal assistant, Miss Favour, and another lady to rape her.

The matter, it was gathered, has been reported at the Human Rights desk at the police headquarters along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.

The lady who is a hairstylist had on Sunday, July 11, protested in front of the church which is located at Diobu.

In an interview with journalists , the lady alleged that the pastor and his PA lured her to a place around Wimpey Junction also in Port Harcourt to resolve issues she had with the pastor’s wife who resides in the compound where the church is situated.

She said she obliged to meet them after Favour who is also her customer told her that the pastor’s wife will also be in the meeting.

She said, upon arrival, she discovered the meeting place was a guest house; she was unsuspecting of anything since Favour was present.

The lady alleged that few minutes after she got inside the room, Mr. Daniel locked the door and increased the volume of the television set while Favour and another lady she does not know held her as he allegedly raped her.

She further alleged that the pastor and the alleged accomplice forced her to swear an oath with a substance suspected to be ‘juju’ not to reveal what transpired to anybody or she dies.

The hair stylist said she opted to protest in front of the church after Sunday service to draw the attention of Nigerians to the continuous harassment and threat she is allegedly receiving from the pastor even after the alleged rape incident.

In the meantime, Barrister Festus Bonwin, a legal practitioner with the human rights advocacy group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, said the group has petitioned the commissioner of police in Rivers State, CP Eboka Friday, upon receiving a report from the 20-year old girl, demanding thorough investigation into the allegation made by her against the pastor.

Bonwin said the group is also asking that the police provide adequate security for her as feelers indicate that there is threat on her life from some quarters.

Recall that Mr Daniel was detained at Azikiwe Divisional Police Headquarters in Mile II, Diobu, Port Harcourt on the 18th of March 2020, after one Mr. Ndidi Austin stormed Daniel’s church alleging that he caught his wife with the pastor in a hotel.

Mr. Daniel, however, denied the allegation stating that the place Austin saw him and his wife was not a hotel.

A source hinted that the Commissioner of Police has minuted the petition filed by Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign to the Human Rights desk at the police headquarters in Moscow Road, headed by SP Nnamdi Omoni, for proper investigation.
