Rivers varsity suspends lecturer for demanding money from project supervisees

Management  of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has suspended one of its lecturers, Mr. Godwin Olai of the Department of Management, for three months over alleged involvement in malpractices.

The university authorities have also referred the matter to the Staff Disciplinary Committee for further investigation after an audio recording allegedly indicted him of academic malpractice.

A statement by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ndimele Ozo-Mekuri, reveals that the recording captured the voices of some final year students under the supervision of Olai who accuse him of demanding seventy thousand naira (N70,000) each for their project.

The statement said the students claimed Olai promised he would personally write, type and bind the finished projects for them without their input, with the exception of writing their Dedication and Acknowledgement pages.

Olai is yet to respond to the allegations.

However, findings by this publication revealed that situations such as these is rampant in most universities as lecturers usually have mercenaries that do these things for their supervisees.
