Renold Construction Company, RCC, the contractor handling the construction of the Akpajo-Onne axis of the East-West Road in Eleme local government area of Rivers State has returned to work following the suspension a seven-day protest embarked upon by the Ogoni people and subsequent release of funds by the federal government.

Ogoni people occupied the road between Monday and Sunday last week demanding the immediate fixing of the entire stretch of the dilapidated road.

The protest which drew solidarity from within and outside Ogoniland was adjudged very peaceful as no record of harassment or intimidation of innocent citizens was recorded.

Port Harcourt Spectator reports that as at 6:30am on Monday, the road was reopened as the protesters called off the strike following the release of money by the ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for compensation to be paid to property owners and continuation of work on the road.
