Umahi suspends commissioner, HoS over alleged insubordination, other offences

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi on Wednesday suspended indefinitely the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Clement Nweke for alleged insubordination and other offences.

Nweke before his suspension had served as a Principal Secretary in the first and second tenure of the governor.

The governor issued the suspension in a statement signed  by the Secretary to the State Government and the Coordinating Commissioner, Mr. Ugbala Kenneth on Wednesday.

Umahi tasked the embattled commissioner to hand over every government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary before the close of work.

The statement reads in part: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has approved the indefinite suspension of Hon. Clement A. Nweke as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development with immediate effect.

“The indefinite suspension is as a result of insubordination and dereliction of duty.

“Consequently, Hon Nweke is directed to hand over all governmental property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior officer in the Ministry before the close of work on Wednesday 11th August 2021.

“Please ensure strict compliance to this directive” it stated.

Recall also, that the governor recently removed the acting Head of Service, HoS, Mrs Adibe Jennifer from office for undisclosed reasons.

The statement reads in part: “Following the directive of the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, the mandate to oversee the Office of the Head of Service, Ebonyi State, earlier assigned to the Special Assistant(SA) on Labour Matters/Inter-Party Affairs, Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor is hereby cancelled and withdrawn with immediate effect.

“The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service is to take charge in overseeing the office henceforth until a new Head of Service is appointed.

“All concerned are to take note and ensure strict adherence to this important directive” the statement noted.
