Governor Emmanuel marginalising Ijaws in Akwa Ibom-IYC raises alarm

By: Felix Ikpotor

Andoni (Obolo) speaking local government areas in Akwa Ibom State-Ibeno, Eastern Obolo are now accusing the state governor, Udom Emmanuel of marginalising them in his recent recruitment into the state education board.

They argued that out of the over 800 from the area that sat for the examinations, only twelve passed, saying it was unacceptable to them.

Chairman of Ijaw Youth council (IYC) in Ibeno Steward, Comrade Isaac Ebrewong challenged the Akwa Ibom State Universal Education Board  to make public the scores of  candidates from Ibeno and Eastern Obolo the two Ijaw clans that sat for the examinations.

He said, “we have someone that scored 92% and his name was not shortlisted for the interview and others who recited the question they were asked in the interview and the answers they gave but still not considered. It is shameful and an insult to Ibeno and Eastern Obolo Ijaws in Akwa Ibom State”.

He added: “How can you tell the entire world that out of over eight hundred candidates from Ibeno-Obolo and Eastern Obolo of Ijaw clans that applied and wrote exams that only eight  people from Ibeno and Four  from Eastern Obolo  passed.

He  urge all the stakeholders from Ibeno and Eastern Obolo clans to stand up and speak for their people.

“If you are a politician from Ibeno and Eastern Obolo and refuse to speak to authority over the marginalization of the two Ijaw LGAs in Akwa Ibom, remember what Mordecai in the Bible told Esther. “God send you to palace (Politics) for a time like this but if you choose not to help (Obolo) your people God will make away,” he said.

The group demanded for immediate inclusion of  Ibeno and Eastern Obolo Ijaws names that were removed from the list.
