Assault: Wike snubs protesting Etche women

Barely 24 hours after reports of the assault on the leader of Etche Legislative Assembly, Cynthia Nwala went viral, some women groups, on Wednesday, staged a protest at Government House in Port Harcourt against what they termed  as violence against women in politics.

The women from Etche protested at the Government House in Port Harcourt where they displayed various placards calling for a stop to all forms of violence against women.

Nwala had on Tuesday accused the Etche Local Government Chairman, Obinna Anyanwu, of being behind her ordeal, an allegation the council boss has denied.

However, it was reported  that after hours of waiting at the Government House gate, no official of the government came out to address the protesting women but rather, the Mrs Nwala and one of the leaders of the protesting women  were invited into the Government House.

The protesters however, expressed disappointment as they had wanted an open commitment from the Governor Nyesom Wike led administration that gender based violence against women will not be tolerated in the state especially within government circle.

On her part, Mrs Nwala, who addressed newsmen alleged that there is a plot to remove her from office because she was not from the area but married there.

She displayed a picture from her phone, showing the deputy leader of Etche dressed as the leader of the assembly.

She also said she wants justice in the matter.
