PVC: Stop registering underaged citizens, INEC appeals

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has appealed to the elites to desist from encouraging and procuring underaged citizens to participate in the ongoing Continous Voters Registration, CVR, exercise in Rivers State and the country.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rivers State,  Obo Effanga made an appeal while encouraging Rivers residents to take advantage of the second quarter of the exercise which commenced on Monday, October 4.

He said it is important to drive home the point that only Nigerians who are 18 years and above are eligible to participate in the CVR.

“The older population should stop Procuring those underage to come and register. Even if your 18 birthday is two days away, you are not permitted to register. At the time you register, you must be 18 years of age.

Not that your birthday is few weeks away.

As many of such information, when we get them, we will reject them. Even if you complete the process of registration, by the time we do the review backstage, we will not approve them,” he said.

Effanga also urged fresh applicants applying for the CVR to present accurate information and be clear about what their registration status when they show up for the CVR.

This is as he urged Rivers residents to take advantage of the commencement of the second quarter of the CVR to secure their PVCs ahead of the 2023 General Election.

“People should give factual information about themselves and Registration Process. We have seen a number of those who didn’t need to register go ahead and register. Some even deny about having previously registered, but when we probe further, we realize they have. We discover they didn’t need a fresh registration.”
