I am not frustrating reconciliation with Amaechi – Omehia

Former Rivers State Governor, Barr. Celestine Omehia, has denied insinuations that he is frustrating a reconciliation with his cousin and current Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi.

Omehia who denied the allegation in an interview also expressed stated that he has met Amaechi only once in the past 15 years, and that it was during the funeral of Charles Amaechi in 2020.

Both first cousins from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Omehia and Amaechi have endured a face-off after the former was booted out of office as governor following Ameachi’s challenge of his emergence as governor.

Responding to questions on  issue of reconciliation, Omehia said: “No, no, no, you are not correct. Amaechi and I have only met once in the past 15 years. This was during the burial of our elder brother, Charles, in Ubima in 2020. I believe that there is time for everything. It is not yet Uhuru.”

When asked what his relationship is with Amaechi and Wike, he stressed that he enjoys a perfect rapport with Wike, but only relates with Amaechi as brother, as he has a different political ideology with him.

“Oh yes, I have a perfect relationship with Governor Nyesom Wike as a person, and an excellent relationship with the administration which he heads. We relate as friends, brothers and political associates. In all honesty, I have learnt a lot of political ideas from him and vice versa. Nyesom is a born politician. Rotimi Amaechi is my younger brother, and we relate as brothers in our family, but obviously, we disagree politically and have different political ideology.”

While Omehia refused to speak about the performance of Amaechi’s administration as he said he was not in Rivers State throughout the period, he added that the Wike’s administration has performed excellently in all ramifications.
