Justice Odili: Some persons want to intimidate Rivers sons, daughters – Nwuke

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and former member of the House of Representatives and Publisher of the Port Harcourt Telegraph, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke has urged Rivers people to resist attempts by some persons to intimidate their sons and daughters who are serving the nation at different levels of government.

Nwuke who recently resigned his position as Spokesperson of the APC in Rivers State remarked Tuesday night that the siege on the residence of Justice Mary Odili proves that individual rights are gradually being trampled upon.

He said, “How can we as a country explain that masterminds of the shameful invasion of the residence of a female justice of the Supreme Court are still walking free?

“How can we explain to the world that people are free in our dear country to storm residences of serving judges who are responsible for interpreting the law at will?

“The situation is worrisome. We hope that the system would unravel the faces of those who chose on Friday night to pay a visit to the home of Justice Mary Odili.

“We salute the Nigerian people for reacting the way they have. Democracy is truly under threat and Nigerians cannot allow efforts made over the years to build strong democratic institutions to go to waste.

“We see the invasion of her residence as emerging evidence that there are people in this country who are opposed to the freedom of the judiciary, especially the right of serving judicial officials to deal with matters of great public interest that are brought before them, without fear or favour.”
