2023: Amaechi wants to single-handedly appoint next Rivers governor

A former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Golden Ngozi Chioma, has accused the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi, of attempting to singlehandedly install the next governor of Rivers State so he alone can take all the accolades, respect and benefits.

Chioma who is the chairman of the faction of Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Senator Magnus Ngei Abe  also alleged that APC in the state has continued to suffer internal crisis because of the decision of a segment of the party loyal to Amaechi to exclude every other person with the belief that they alone will continue to enjoy the benefits accruing to the party.

The party chief spoke in an interview with The Punch over the weekend in Port Harcourt.

“The Minister of Transportation is excluding all of us. He wants to appoint the next governor. He doesn’t want anybody to support the next governor. He wants the governor to be appointed by him for the benefit of himself. If you have a candidate that you want to make governor, let the candidate come out; let him move, let him meet people and let him socialise. Let him campaign so that people will be able to hold him for what he wants to be. Not that you will wait, two months to the election time, you will bring one man and say he will be the next governor, so that you alone will take all the accolades, all the respect and everything. We will say no to that move.”

“But, a situation where a group of persons decides to exclude every other person with the belief that they alone will continue to enjoy the benefits accruing to the party is not fair. So, we are playing politics; we are not in any way and manner being shy with it. We have always said that we will continue to remain relevant with the issues and we are not going to be relevant because we want to be somebody’s bootlicker. No!”

Chioma expressed confidence that the APC under his leadership is poised to take over the state in 2023.

“I said so during my inauguration that we are ready to take over, and yes, we are going to make sure that members of the public see the APC as the only alternative they have. We are going to be very pragmatic in doing that so that the party will move to greater heights.”
