Reactions is now trailing the decision of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to disapprove the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium from hosting the next Confederation Cup game of Rivers United .
Former chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers State chapter, Udede Jim-Opiki, has criticized the decision.
He stated that Amiesimaka’s stadium has hosted a lot of continental games before now, saying that it is not fair changing the venue against All Masry of Egypt in CAF confederation cup play off.
Opiki, said this in a Radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt.
Following disapproval of Amiesimaka Stadium, CAF has confirmed Enyimba International Stadium of Aba, as the Rivers United home ground for the tie.
According to him, this is football politics off the field, adding that he is optimistic, the sole administrator of Rivers United FC, Barrister Christopher Green, can up turn the decision.
“It bothers my mind after playing CAF Champions league games at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, suddenly the place is no longer suitable for CAF Confederation Cup.
The same stadium was suitable for CAF Champions league against Young Africans FC of Tanzania and Al Hilal FC of Sudan, why now, against Al Masry of Egypt for Confederation Cup play off it is not suitable again?
This is football politics off the field, Opiki” said.
He called on the management of Rivers United FC to do what they can, to bring back the match to Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
