Why Wike created office of Deputy Chief of Staff

By: Admin

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday, announced the creation of the office of Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House to support the senior Chief of Staff office currently occupied by Chief Emeka Woke.

Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant to the governor on media in a statement, said the occupant of the new office will ensure activities are functioning efficiently and effectively.

“The Deputy Chief of Staff will be in charge of the logistics, correspondence of the governor, and legal matters.”

According to Ebiri, the governor also announced the creation of the Office of the Special Adviser on Aviation.

Meanwhile, there are feelers that the governor may have finally moved to whittle down the powers of Woke who is touted to be nursing governorship ambition and favourite to succeed in 2023.

Wike had earlier warned that any member of his cabinet that wants to contest elections should resign as he requires a hundred percent loyalty from all his appointees.

Some Port Harcourt residents observed that the current CoS being an elderstatesman is becoming too powerful for Wike to effectively contain due to  his influence among party faithfuls, hence the move to sideline him with the choice of a more loyal person as his deputy.

However, the candidate for that office is yet unknown but pundits say it would be someone considered to be much younger and highly loyal to the governor.

One of them who gave his name simply as Mr Boma asked, “if the new Deputy Chief of Staff will be in charge of the logistics, correspondence of the governor, and legal matters what then would Woke be doing?.
