Protection of national assets : NSCDC seeks partnership with media

The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will work in synergy with the media for enhanced reportage of its operations for the security of maritime oil and gas industry including other critical national assets.

State commandant, Aliyu Bature, stated this in his office on Monday, December during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Energy Maritime Reporters, EMR, in Port Harcourt.

Bature, who thanked the group for the visit, noted that it was necessary for the NSCDC to work with EMR since the group has to do with maritime oil and gas which is a key concern and an area of mandate of the corp.

He said: “It is important for us to work with you because most of our activities have to do with the public, and for the public to understand our doings, it is you that will take the information to them.

” Sometimes, we do operations in the night while most of the people are sleeping. But the following day you will come up, see us and we show you the arrests we made and some suspects we have and you carry this information to the grassroots. So, your coming is very important. “

He emphasized that the command would need synergy with EMR in terms of information gathering and media advice.

Earlier, the chairman of EMR, Mr Martins Giadom, stated that partnership between EMR and NSCDC would help both groups to perform better and assist the corps more in its national assignment.

He stressed the need for the corps to organize seminars and sensitization forums to enlighten communities on its activities and the dangers of illegal exploitation of the oil and gas sector of Nigeria’s economy.
