Total Energies empowers host communities in Rivers

Beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme

As part of her corporate social responsibilities aimed at creating a harmonious working relationship with hosts communities , Total Energies Nigeria  has presented twenty (20) tricycles popularly known as KEKE NAPEP to indigenes of its offshore host communities in Opobo/Nkoro and Andoni local government areas of Rivers State.

The event which took place in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, saw members of the Obolo-Ngo Njeyesi Thrift and Savings Co-operative Society Limited and the Opobo-Kirika Thrift and Credit Co-operative Investment Society Limited benefitting from the gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries from Opobo/Nkoro, Mr. Reginald Pepple expressed delight at the gesture by the oil-giants.

He said: “We are so grateful and delighted to be here after all the processes. We thank each and every member of the cooperative and Total Energies for fulfilling their promise of releasing this number of tricycles to this cooperative to give them a source of living.”

On his part, Solomon Awaji-Nenesung Obianyi, chairman of Andoni cooperative who spoke on behalf of the Andoni beneficiaries said they are grateful to the company for finding the communities worthy of the empowerment.

“It want to thank Total for this kind gestures, for finding the communities including Andoni worthy to give this tricycles especially to the youths as empowerment. I thank them so much and encourage them to do more for the people of the area. Once again we say we are proud to be part of this initiative and we say may God bless them,” he stated.

The beneficiaries also stated that the gesture by Total Energies will help to further harmonise the working relationship between the company and the host communities and also reduce crime in the areas as it will help members to be self-employed.

Our Correspondent reports that each of the cooperatives from the two local government areas was given ten tricycles  for their members.
