A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded 32-year-old Promise Cletus in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre, for allegedly taking away a fifteen (15) months old child.

The suspect was said to have taken one year and three months old master King David Saroz from the custody of his mother, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 27(2) (b) (c) of child’s right act, Cap 50 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2003.

The Defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and Chief Magistrate Felicitas Amanze remanded him in prison and adjourned to 21 January, 2022, for hearing.

Our correspondent reports that the Defendant had no legal representation in court while Counsels Jane James and Esther Achor-Korienta held watching brief for Legal Care Advocacy Foundation and International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) respectively on behalf of the complainant.
