One Miss Jane Amos in now caling for justice as a result of the high degree burns she suffered from the burning kerosene stove thrown at her by a Police officer attached to a Royal Majesty in Upata Kingdom, Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State, Inspector Eze Agbelu, a co-tenant of the victim, at Rumuokwuta, in Obio-Akpor local government area of the state.
In an interview, the victim Jane Amos, narrated that on Wednesday 19 January, she took her niece to the bathroom to bath her but on getting there Inspector Agbelu was inside bathroom. After contemplating whether to bath the niece outside, the officer came out of the bathroom and started quarreling her that she is trying him in the compound.
According to Miss Amos, she only asked the officer what the problem was and took her niece inside the bathroom to bath her, but he kept ranting and shouting that he will deal with her.
She explained further that after bathing her niece while taking her inside the room to get her dressed for school, he continued insulting and threatened to bleed her.
She alleged that the Police Inspector had earlier made advances on her for a relationship, which she declined, only for him to develop hatred towards her, picking quarrel on every little thing she does in the compound.
She, however claimed that on coming out of her room to remove the pot of rice and beans she was cooking, she saw the Police Officer standing beside her room. On asking him what he was doing at her corner, the Officer allegedly slapped her and grabbed her by the neck and she began struggling with him.
The victim also alleged that Inspector Eze Agbelu threw away the pot of food she was cooking, carried the burning stove and threw on her which resulted to the severe burns on her body.
She said she was immediately rushed to hospital were she is currently receiving treatment, noting that the officer in question has been arrested and detained at Rumupirikom Police Division, Kala in Obio-Akpor local government area where her brother made a statement.
Miss Jane Amos however, called for justice, urging the Commissioner of Police to prosecute Inspector Eze Agbelu for brutalizing her and inflicting pains on her for no just cause.
In the meantime, the Centre For Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
A statement by a lawyer with the group, Festus Bonwin, called for thorough investigation with a view to dispensing justice to the parties involved in the matter.
