No case of toxic petrol in Rivers- Medee

By: Felix Ikpotor

Rivers State Government has said there has not been any reported case of toxic petrol in the state.

This followed the importation of toxic fuel into the country by some petrol importers last week.

Federal Government had fingered oil majors such as Oando and MRS as being responsible for the importation of the toxic petrol into the country.

Reacting to the development in an interview, Rivers State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Peter Medee said the state has not recorded any from it’s petrol outlets or any complain from any motor user.

Medee said: “We have directed marketers to be mindful of the products they bring to Rivers State so that they don’t endanger the economy of the state. It’s our policy that all tank farm owners in the state must endeavour to get the best of the product. We would do our very best to ensure that both tank farm owners and other people doing business in Rivers State are patriotic enough not to bring that product into Rivers State.

For now we don’t have fuel lines in the state and we don’t hope to have, there is no scarcity of fuel in Rivers State, hence it’s our advice that people don’t go into panic buying”.

He added: “I ‘m aware of the toxic fuel imported into the country, that exist in Lagos and Abuja but in Rivers State, we are yet to get an official report from any of our stations or from any road or household user of petroleum products that they have encountered such products so for now, we don’t have such report”.
