The family of Umuokoya, Umuebe in Omoku Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers state have expressed deep concern over the purported presentation of Nwachukwu Nnam-Obuoha Obi as new Oba of Ogbaland to Governor Nyesom Wike for recognition when the matter of the disputed Oba stool is pending before a court in the state.
The case over the disputed stool is pending before Omoku High Court.
The Umuokoya family through their legal counsel G.O Ebulu are praying the court to give an order for interlocutory injunction restraining Mr. Nwachukwu Nnam-Obuoha Obi from parading himself as Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland, from presenting himself for coronation as Oba Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland and as well as an order restraining the Executive Governor of Rivers State from recognizing and or issuing certificate of recognition to Mr. Nwachukwu Nnam-Obuoha Obi as Oba Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case.
The statement reads in parts: “We wish to draw the attention of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Governor E. N. Wike once again to this fact and pray the governor to withhold every action anticipated to accord Mr Nwachukwu Nnam-Obuoha Obi any form of recognition as Oba Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland as recognizing him as such will mean a total disregard and disrespect to the powers of the court which is the last hope of the common man”.
“As an advocate of justice and proponent of rule of law, we enjoin Governor Nyesom Wike and the Rivers State Government to allow due process to take its course in the matter as it applied in the then disputed Eze Apara Rebisi Stool and others where the government allowed the judiciary to do its job before recognition was accorded to the current occupants”.
