Mob lynch suspected robber in Akwa Ibom

A suspected robber has lost his life after a mob  set him ablaze in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

The deceased, identified as ‘Tempo’, accused of terrorizing Uyo residents and its environs was lynched after a failed robbery at a popular boutique in the state capital.

It was gathered that the victim had stormed the boutique with members of his gang when someone saw them and raised an alarm.

His gang members were said to have escaped, leaving the victim behind.

It was learnt that the deceased was apprehended, stripped off his charms, and dismembered, before being set ablaze.

Some female students of the University of Uyo living around the area, alleged to be under the territorial powers of the deceased had complained of being raped, with their phones, and other valuables snatched.

Confirming the incident, the state Police spokesperson, Odiko Macdon, said jungle justice had no place in the country’s criminal judicial system.

He further warned youths and vigilante groups against carrying out jungle justice, noting that the command will not hesitate to prosecute culprits.
