Former militant leader in the Niger Delta, Asari Dokubo, has reacted to the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 elections.
Speaking via his page on Facebook on Thursday, Dokubo said of all presidential candidates presented by various political parties, Tinubu had the right pedigree to lead the country.
He maintained that the former Lagos State Governor set up the 4th largest economy in Africa, adding that with that “Lagos can stand on its own without depending on anybody.”
Taking a swipe at the Rivers governor Nyesom Wike and his predecessors, he said Rivers State has the same resources to match Lagos but lacks the right hands to set the ball rolling.
He said Amaechi was looking for “being anointed,” but failed woefully “like Wike” at the primaries.
According to him, the porous electoral system in the country has given certain persons the belief that they can win an election in any position.
Speaking further, the ex-militant leader, noted that his loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan made him cut communications with Tinubu and many other political chieftains.
He said he cut ties with Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior; President Muhammadu Buhari, Adams Oshomole, and other APC members due to his loyalty to Jonathan.
“I cut off communication with Tinubu because of Goodluck in 2014.
“I was in Mecca for Hajj, with the present Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola. I went to his hotel room at Intercontinental Mecca to see him, that was in 2013, and he said, ‘why are you following Goodluck’? He said Goodluck would not do you anything good. He said, ‘why do you stay in a place where you are tolerated, instead of staying where you are celebrated?’ he disclosed.
He added that his relationship with Jonathan made him make enemies, noting that “I sacrificed those relationships for my people, and I’m not regretting it.”
Dokubo said he was not campaigning for the APC presidential candidate, but urging Nigerians to vote for the best candidate to move the nation forward.
