Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has charged eligible Rivers people to obtain their voter’s card before the 5pm deadline of Sunday, July 31, 2022.
Banigo stated this while playing host to Women Leaders/Stakeholders of Rivers West Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Government House in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Banigo said the people must realise that their vote is their voice, stressing that they must get their PVCs now and participate actively in electing the right leaders of their choice, because our people deserve the best, and surely, every vote must count in 2023.
“We thank God for the new Electoral Act that has been signed into law, that Act does not allow anybody to snatch the Ballot Box.
“You see the problem we have now in Rivers State is that a lot of people are not going to collect their cards, even INEC is complaining, please go and educate our people, our brothers, and our friends to go collect their PVCs at the INEC offices, it is not good because we will be short-changing ourselves, we should put our votes in there, so we can continue to get the dividends of democracy that our Governor has been doing in the last seven years”, Banigo stressed.
The deputy governor thanked them for their support for Governor Nyesom Wike, whom she described as a gender-friendly leader, who opened the space and brought more women into leadership positions.
“Our governor has been showing great support for the women, he believes that the women have the capacity and ability to do the work put her there and she will do the work, thank you all for not disappointing our governor, and thank you for the very successful primaries of our party, in our Senatorial District. I was blown off by the turnout, thank you for how you supported me. It was very peaceful; everything was done in an orderly manner”, the deputy governor said.
In her remarks, the Rivers West Senatorial District Woman Leader of PDP, Hon. Ubah Josephine Gabriel, said they were at the Government House to felicitate and pray with the deputy governor for the success of the upcoming 2023 General Election.
Also speaking, Prof Gloria Obuzor and Mrs. Ukiel Oyaghiri, who was represented by Dr. Juliet Berewari, extolled the sterling qualities of the deputy governor, which according to them, has given the Rivers women a pride of place while thanking the State Chief Executive for his support to Rivers women.
Highlights of the occasion were the presentation of an Award of Excellence and Humility to the deputy governor, as well as prayers and worship sessions.
