Court remands ‘Reverend Sister’ in prison custody for child theft

A Port Harcourt Magistrate Court has remanded an alleged fake reverend sister to Port Harcourt prison, for murder and child trafficking.

The suspect, Maureen Wecheonwu who was arraigned on a 42 counts charge is said to have conspired amongst others at large to commit murder and child trafficking, an offence punishable under section 324, 361, of the criminal code Cap 37 Vol 2 Laws of Rivers State 1999.

The presiding Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Menenen Poromon, said the court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the one count charge and ordered the prosecution to separate the charges.

Chief Poromon directed that the case file be referred to the Director of public prosecution DPP and adjourned the matter to 10 December, 2022 for DPP advice.
