Ogoni youths lament death of commuters crushed by trailer on East-West road

…. Accuse FG of complicity

The  Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) has lamented the death of eight commuters crushed to death by a falling trailer loaded with a 40 feet container on Thursday October 6, 2022 on the Ogoni axis of the East/West road in Rivers State  due to the deplorable state of the road.

Reacting to the incident, the President-General of OYF Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana  who spoke with news men from Abuja, said the Federal Government is responsible for the ugly incident.

He noted that the ugly incident could have been avoided if the Federal Government had listened to the yearnings and series of protests by Ogoni youths to fix the road.

On the information from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, that contractors would be mobilised to site within two weeks, the Ogoni youth leader, “expressed surprise why the government jettisoned series of protests, concerted efforts and engagements by the youths regarding the road, but chose to mobilise contractors to site now that lives have been lost. Could it be that the government wanted to spilt blood first before performing their responsibility? Yamaabana queried!

He called on government to expedite action without much  and mobilize contractors to site before the end of October as promised, as a default of this last agreement would be seen as provocative and leave the people of Ogoni with no option but to perpetually close down the road.

The President-General also expressed  condolence with  the bereaved families  and prayed God Almighty to give them the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.

He further called on Ogoni youths and all those affected directly and indirectly by the poor state of the road to keep calm as plans are underway to proffer a lasting solution.
