By: Felix Ikpotor

Governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has decried the politicisation of access to flood victims in the state by agents of the government.

It was reported that Lulu-Briggs, a philanthropists was refused access to one of the internally displaced persons camp in Ahoada West by persons acting on the orders of the council chairman when he went there to donate relief materials to the victims.

He expressed surprise that agents of the Rivers State Government could stop him and other person’s who are interested in rendering help to those in the IDP camps.

Speaking after he visited an IDP camp in Abua/Odual LGA where he donated food items and cash gifts,  the gubernatorial candidate said the condition of people in the camp is pathetic.

“Well I didn’t know it is that bad until I went and saw for myself, one can imagine how terrible our people have lived in the past weeks, we pray that the situation gets better for them.

“Nothing is organised. Some persons don’t even know where the IDP camps are including the local people. They directed us to somewhere down the road and when we got there, we were stopped by officials of the government. You know PDP and they wanted to know if the chairman was aware that we were coming to give some food stuffs to internally displaced persons and I felt that was terrible. Politics over human lives? we should emphasize governance.

Port Harcourt Spectator recalls that Chairman of Ahoada West council, Hope  Ikiriko had few days ago issued a statement, warning politicians not to turn the IDP camps to political campaign centres.
