Rivers election tribunal receives 34 petitions

The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has received a total of 34 petitions from different political parties that participated in the just concluded general elections in the state.

The tribunal which is sitting at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex has the names of political parties and their candidates challenging the outcome of the elections displayed on a notice board.

Some of the petitions received by the tribunal are that of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Beatrice Itubo; the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Patrick Tonye Cole; and one other challenging the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Siminialayi Fubara.

The victory of the three Senators-elect, all from the PDP; Senator Barry Mpigi for Rivers South East, Allwell Onyesoh for Rivers East and Ipalibo Harry-Banigo (current Deputy Governor) for Rivers West as well as some state constituencies, are all being challenged by candidates of different political parties.

From the notice board on display it was gathered that the APC and the Labour Party have secured ex parte orders from the court to obtain the Certified True Copy of the election results and to inspect materials used in the conduct of the just concluded elections.
