Police demotes officer for assaulting man in Rivers

The Nigeria Police Force has demoted one Adejoh Siaka from the rank of Inspector to Sergeant for physically assaulting a male motorist in Rivers state.

Siaka was seen in a viral video which circulated on April 9, 2023, flogging and slapping a yet to be identified man on the road while another officer identified as Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari looked on without taking steps to stop the assault.

A statement released on Tuesday, April 18, by the Force PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the three officers who were on duty on the day of the incident were subjected to an orderly room trial. Siaka was demoted for assault, Kpuebari was severely reprimanded for not stopping the assault while one Inspector Friday Obaka was discharged unconditionally as it was found that he was not present as at the time of the incident.

The trio would however be transferred out of the Rivers state police command to continue their police duties, Adejobi said.
