… As pastor pleads guilty to raping minor
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Police Corporal, Bright Okey for alleged involvement in armed robbery and car snatching.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, disclosed this while parading some suspects in Port Harcourt.
SP Koko said the Police officer with three of his accomplices went to snatch a Toyota Corolla at Gateway axis of Ada-George when men of the C41 intelligence unit intercepted them.
According to her, exhibits, such as single-barrel guns, were recovered from the Police Officer, who has now been dismissed.
SP Koko also disclosed that seven suspected child traffickers were arrested, and two children aged two (2) years and another three years old were rescued.
Explaining his involvement in the crime, Bright said they went to rob at Ada-George after successfully snatching a vehicle. They had an accident while escaping and were intercepted by the Police and later transferred to the CP monitoring unit.
One ThankGod Ekwueme was also paraded for selling his three children for seven hundred thousand (700,000), five hundred thousand (500,000) and three hundred and fifty thousand (350,000) naira, respectively.
Ekwueme, in an interview with Journalists, said he was intercepted by the local Vigilante group OSPAC in Omerelu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, when he was about to sell his newborn baby.
He disclosed that he was handed over to Elele Police Division, where he was transferred to the CP Monitoring unit.
The mother-in-law to Ekwueme explained to reporters that before now, the suspect had lied to her that her grandchildren had died after delivery.
She said further that the suspect Ekwueme has been taking advantage of her daughter, his wife, who is deaf and dumb to perpetrate the act of selling their children upon delivery.
Meanwhile, Pastor Piller Erekwa of Glorious Covenant Church in Mgbuola village, Ndele, Emohua local government area Rivers State, has pleaded guilty to one count charge of sexual abuse against a fifteen years old girl.
The suspect was arraigned before a Magistrate Court presided by Chief Magistrate Ogeh Elkanah, by the Rivers Police Command.
When the charge was read to him in Court, Piller Erekwa pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the girl between December 2022 and January 2023, thereby committing a crime punishable by the law of Rivers State.
The Chief Magistrate while adjourning the case for facts and sentencing, remanded the Pastor to Port Harcourt Correctional Centre pending his sentencing on July 19, 2023.
The suspect was arrested Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Ndele by the Rumuji Police Division and later transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
