Rivers Assembly passes Public Works, Utilities Protection Bill

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed the Rivers State Public Works and Utilities Protection Amendment Bill into Law.

The Bill amended the Rivers State Public Works and Utilities Protection Law No. 9 of 2012, to provide additional safeguards for public works and utilities; and stiffer punishment for those found culpable in the act of stealing and vandalising of public infrastructure in the state.

The  Bill which was sponsored by the Speaker, Martin Chike Amaewhule and Victor Oko Jumbo, member, representing Bonny Constituency was passed on Monday at its 47th sitting.

In a related development, the House has passed the Rivers State Administration of Estate (Small Estate Payments Exemption Bill, 2023).

The Bill provides for the grant of certificate to small estate, exempt such from payment of estate duty, and the grant of full letters of administration.

The Bill which is a Private Member was sponsored by the House Leader, Edison Ehie.
