The Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Prof Chizindu Alikor, has commended the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for the establishment of the Intense Care Unit (ICU) in RSUTH.
Prof Alikor, who stated this during the opening ceremony of the ICU for life threatening conditions said Governor Fubara is building on the previous administration , particularly his support in establishing of the ICU in the hospital.
The CMD thanked the governor for his dedication and commitment to the healthcare and well being of Rivers people.
He said the ICU is a well equipped state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will provide a critical care life support for seriously ill and injured patients.
“The RSUTH Intense Care Unit will also cater for patients with severe or life threatening illnesses and injuries which require constant care, close supervision from life support equipment and medications”, he noted.
He assured that the management of the RSUTH will ensure that service delivery, training and innovative research, which are their key mandates, would be realised.
Earlier in her speech, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, said the establishment of the ICU in the hospital is a higher level of advanced care for both people resident in the state and neighbouring states.
“Rivers people should be proud that the Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, is keeping to his campaign promises he made by equipping the ICU for Rivers people. This will invariably alleviate the economic and health burden of the people”, she said.
