A non-governmental organisation, Mumagee Foundation for Youth, Women and Girl Child Empowerment says it is planning a programme that would empower youths in Rivers State and eradicate poverty among the young class.
President and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Dr Muma Gift Eke (Muma Gee) while briefing newsmen at a media parley in Port Harcourt said the programme which is tagged African Talent Hunt-Rivers Got Talent, would begin in Rivers as a pilot state.
“Rivers Got Talent is a human capital development project/programme aimed at eradicating poverty, insecurity, terrorism, social vices etc, amongst Rivers youths by harnessing and grooming them into entrepreneurs for self-reliance and sustenance,” she said.
Eke who is a Rivers-born musician and philanthropist said the programme has been designed by her foundation to give back to the society.
She also said the initiative is an answer to the cries of Rivers youth over the wanton neglect they are experiencing.
“The frustration out there, the lack of care that youths experience from communities, churches, oil companies operating in their communities, family members, political leaders and others, our foundation has come to give them succour”, she stated.
She said the target of the initiative is to empower no fewer than 1000 persons, adding that beneficiaries of the talent hunt are persons from the ages of thirteen years with any proven skill.
While calling for partnership from the media, Eke said her foundation is going to comb the entire councils and grassroots areas of the state to fish out talents.
