S’South youths raise alarm over alleged plot to sack Fubara through Supreme Court

The South South Youths Initiative, SSYI, says it has uncovered alleged plot by suspected ‘enemies’ of Rivers State to remove the governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara through the anticipated Supreme Court judgment fixed for next week.

The youths’ group alleged that the plan is to remove the governor through the Supreme Court and swear-in embattled speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule as acting governor.

The group warned that the situation could spell doom for the state.

National President of South South Youths Initiative, SSYI, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar in a statement regretted that Rivers State was going through this kind of political tussle at a time that good governance is most needed.

“The South South Youths Initiative condemns totally, the planned intention of the Supreme Court to deliver judgement against His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State in favour of the enemies of Rivers State. It is quite unfortunate that it is coming at a time when Rivers people are thinking about good governance as a result of the negative impact of the previous administration.

“At this point when we are thinking of how to move forward, the planned intention of the enemies of Rivers State is to remove the governor through the Supreme Court judgement that will be taking place next week to pave way for the swearing in of the  Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule as the acting governor of Rivers State,” the statement said.

The group further regretted that while other states are moving forward, politicians in Rivers State are only interested in creating unnecessary political tussle to derail development in the state.

SSYI also questioned the rationale behind the resignation of Edison Ehie as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, urging Governor Fubara to come clean in his fight with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

“If at all His Excellency is sincere to the people of Rivers State, he should come out and tell us why Edison Ehie resigned his position as Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly and as a member of the Assembly.

“We also want to know why His Excellency has been so silent following the judgment that we are hearing that would come from the Supreme Court, Rivers people are not okay with it,” the statement said.

The group however, called on the security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and properties of Rivers people in the event of any eventuality arising from the anticipated Supreme Court judgement.

“We also want to call on the security agencies that whatever happens in Rivers State in the event of the anticipated judgement, lives and securities should be secured.

“We are not happy that at a point where Rivers people were already happy that things were going to go right, things would now turn the other way round,” the group said.

The South South Youths Initiative also raised doubts over the planned bye-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, into vacant state constituencies, saying that the outcome may not be fair to all parties involved.
