The Movement For The Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, has commended the Project Coordinator of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey on his numerous achievements within one year of his stay in office.
MOSOP in a statement signed by it Publicity Secretary, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar said the commendation sterns from their careful analysis of the performance of the current Project Coordinator within the last one year.
The body noted that the ongoing Ogoni clean-up exercise is a product of the Ogoni struggle it spearheaded and as such, it is apt to commend those who are contributing immensely in keeping with the vision of the commission and encouraging them to do more for the Ogoni people.
MOSOP listed some of the achievements of Zabbey within the last one year which deserves its commendation include; support funds for 40 Ogoni women in community markets across the 4 LGAs to the tune of N4,000,000, commencement of construction work at the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, CEER, which has passed 50 percent completion stage within the last one year, trainning of 5000 Ogoni youths and women on 38 different Vocational skills areas, trainning of over 2000 Ogoni youths and women on IMO I & II to work at remediation sites, trainning and provision of grants to 90 Ogoni women on mangrove nursery planting to be suppliers to companies involved in Shoreline Restoration Projects.
Others listed according to the statement are; commissioning of the Barako, Ebubu, Kpean, Korokoro and Terabor Water Schemes, Career Enhancement and Employability Workshop for fresh Ogoni graduates, trainning of over 200 Ogoni youths and start-ups on Business Proposal Writing, commencement of work on the Ogoni Specialist Hospital Kpite and Bua Specialist Hospital, facilitating the employment of 5 Ogonis as cabin crew by Dana Air and Belagio Air, Procurement and Business Development Strategy Workshop for 150 Ogoni business owners.
it also listed Education Support for 200 Final year students across the four LGAs of Ogoni, trainning of over 2500 Ogonis on shoreline clean up exercise, ongoing Ogoni power project aimed at connecting entire Ogoni to the National Grid, award of contracts for remediation work on contaminated sites amongst others.
MOSOP said, “These underlisted achievements within just one year is unprecedented for an agency that was created since 2015, inaugurated in 2016 and has been working with little or nothing concrete to show for the huge sums of money received. As such, it is apt to say that this current leadership of HYPREP has done very well and deserves all the accolades from critical stakeholders in Ogoni such as MOSOP”.
MOSOP also commended the Chairman, Board of Trustees of HYPREP, Dr. Mike Nwielaghi for his prudent management of the resources released for the Ogoni Clean-up Exercise and for his support to the PC resulting to the massive achievements recorded, praying that such collaboration should continue for the overall benefit of Ogoni Nation.
The statement added:
“It’s also worthy of note that Ogonis have suffered so much environmental degradation and economic strangulation and if at this time, a leadership such as exemplified in Professor Nenibarini Zabbey and his team in HYPREP is working round the clock to ameliorate the sufferings and lift the living standards of Ogoni people through her Livelihood Programmes, such deserves commendation from us.
“As an organisation, MOSOP assures this current leadership of HYPREP of maximum support and also use this medium to call on all Ogoni sons and daughters to do same to help the leadership accomplish its mandate and to lead Ogoni land to the track of progress and prosperity.
“MOSOP, once more congratulates Professor Nenibarini Zabbey on his achievements in one year in office and urge him to do more because Ogoni people are taking notes and a time of reward would surely come”.
