Youth leaders condemn attack on APP secretariat in Rivers

… Vow to defend state if police fails to act

The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition, RSEYLC,  has  condemned the early Monday morning attack on the State Headquarters of the Action Peoples Party (APP).

Chairman of RSEYLC, Dr. Legborsi  Yamaabana, who stated this in a statement, described the explosion as one of too many that have recently rocked the state.

“This attack is yet another act from those who oppose diverse political views in Rivers State. It is a blatant affront on democratic freedom that must be swiftly addressed,” he stated.

Yamaabana who also is the President General of Ogoni Youths Federation, recalled a previous incident during a protest led by the former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule about two month ago, where it was alleged that he and others conspired to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED), adding that despite the identification of the culprits, the police have yet to prosecute the suspects.

“We suspect that the same individuals responsible for that incident are behind this latest attack on the APP secretariat. This pattern of violence is clearly a strategy to disrupt the upcoming local government elections in Rivers State,”  Yamaabana added.

He called on the State Police Command and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the perpetrators and their sponsors, and ensure they face justice.

“A comprehensive investigation is necessary to bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice. They must face appropriate punitive measures to deter anyone who believes they can manipulate Nigeria’s security apparatus for personal gain,” he stated.

Additionally, Yamaabana warned that if the police continue to ignore these issues, Rivers youth leaders will have no choice but to rise to the occasion and defend the state.

He used the medium to urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by calling detractors of the state, particularly those loyal to the FCT Minister to order before the situation escalates further.
