New Rivers NSCDC Commandant takes over, calls for synergy with sister agencies

Following  redeployment of the former Rivers State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Basil Igwebueze, a new Commandant has taken over.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Ayodeji said the new Commandant is Mr. Joachim Okafor.

The statement also said he had served in Niger State before being deployed to Rivers State.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Commandant Joachim Okafor thanked the Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi  for the privilege to serve, pledging to work relentlessly and promote the integrity of the Corps.

He noted that the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure which remains the mainstay of the nation’s economy and a hallmark of the Corps mandate can only be actualized through effective collaborations amongst critical stakeholders.

 He said to achieve this feat, his administration would work in synergy with the state government, all sister Security Agencies, Community and Religious leaders, Civil Society Organizations, the youth, the media amongst others in combating crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, environmental degradation and other associated crimes in the state.

Commending the new Commandant Okafor, the Zone L Commander in charge of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River,  Assistant Commandant General,  (ACG) Ayinla Olowo said the new State Commandant is an experienced, highly resourceful and dedicated officer who has served in various capacity in the corps’ formations across the nation.

ACG Olowo further noted that posting and deployment of officers within the NSCDC is not a punishment but an opportunity to enhance their performance and develop potentials.

He appreciated the dedication of the immediate past Commandant Basil Igwebueze and charged officers and men of the  Rivers State Command to be disciplined and remain loyal to the high command of the Corps and dedicated to the service of the nation.
