Police arrest fake officer during cult initiation in Rivers

…Parades more killers of CDC chairman

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a fake police officer in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

The fake police officer, Fred Monday was arrested in Luegbo Community in the area during an initiation exercise by suspected members of Vikings Confraternity.

Commissioner of police in the state,  Tunji Disu while parading the suspect before journalists in Port Harcourt said the suspect is a member of the dreaded Iceland cult group and hails from Wiiyaakara community in Khana but resides in Eneka in Obio Akpor LGA.

He said the suspect also operates tricycle (Keke NAPEP) in the day and robs at night, adding that the police arrived the scene of if the initiation on intelligence report.

Disu said: “On arriving at the scene, the Police met with an ongoing gruesome Cult initiation process. Five suspects, later found to be students of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, were arrested. The students, Mduni Clement, Prosper Wonyingipreye, Kunle Joseph, Eken Evans and Isaiah Elisha confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity. They have been charged in court and are presently in a correctional centre.

“While carrying out the arrest of the five cultists, the Police encountered a man with them, fully dressed in Police camouflage and donning the rank of an Inspector of Police. He was armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines and twenty-nine rounds of live ammunition. He was taken into custody and after interrogations, his identity was revealed as Fred Monday, a 31-year-old from Wiyakara Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State and resident at F-man Close, Eneka Link Road, Port Harcourt.

“He confessed to being an impostor who bought the rifle in 2021 for NGN 850,000 from an accomplice, Goodluck aka Boy-J. He also bought ten magazines, thirty-one rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades from the same accomplice. He disclosed to the Police how he and other gang members would disguise as Policemen to escort criminals to operate in different states, including Akwa-Ibom, Edo, Delta and Rivers State”.

CP Disu added: “Fred Monday is a confessed member of the Iceland cult group and has been carrying out numerous crimes using the cover of being a Policeman to terrorise his victims. He is also an armed robber who operated as a Keke (tricycle) rider during the day, scanning the area for possible victims to attack under the cover of night.

He said investigation are ongoing to round up other members of his gang while an AK-47 riffle, 10 magazines and 29 rounds of ammunitions were recovered from him.

Meanwhile, the police said it has arrested more killers of a former Community Development Committee Chairman of Mgboushimini Community in Obio Akpor LGA, Chief Ndidi Livingstone on 13th January 2024 in front of his church, the Peculiar Faith Ministries, Rumueme.

Disu said the arrested gang members were also involved in the killing of Chief  Minikwu Chukwu, a traditional ruler in Mgboushimini.

The arrested cultists are gang members of Peter Daddy Chuku, the cultists who killed  the CDC chairman, who himself  was assassinated in a gun battle with the police in April in Delta State.

CP Disu during the briefing listed the names of the arrested suspects as Chigemezu Anochrimoyanya, Nnamdi Emmanuel, John Lucas, Adebayo Adebayo, Chimezie Adiele, Ogolo Promise, Success Oge, Ifeanyi Nwadike and Sunday God’s power.

He listed items recovered from them to includes; 2 AK-47 riffle, 1 Assault riffle, 1 short gun, 2 SMG riffles, 10 magazines, 150 live ammunitions and 1 pistol.

The Commissioner of Police said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
