Group condemns anti- LG polls protest in Rivers

The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition, RSEYLC, have condemned the Thursday protest organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, along with some former Local Government Area Chairmen in the state.
Chairman of RSEYLC, Legborsi Yamaabana in a statement said that Rivers State chapter of the PDP, under the leadership of Mr. Aaron Chukwuemeka, has no legal standing in Nigeria today, saying; “Their emergence was in direct violation of a subsisting court order, making any actions taken by this faction unlawful”.

He added: “As such, the protests and gatherings organized by Aaron Chukwuemeka and his group are illegal and an affront to the rule of law”.

Yamaabana further called on all patriotic sons and daughters of Rivers State to take advantage of the public holidays declared by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to participate fully in the elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, urging them to cast their votes for the Action Peoples Party (APP), symbolized by the big elephant logo.

He described the action of the protesters as “shameful” and a display of greed.

“The greed and destructive tendencies displayed by these former council chairmen and their associates are shamefully evident.

” Their actions are a desperate distraction from the legitimate activities of the state. We urge the good people and youth of Rivers State to disregard their antics and remain focused on the forthcoming elections”.

The group however, caution the protesters not to misinterpret the patience and silence of Rivers people as a sign of weakness, threatening that they would be met with resolute action if they don’t stop.
