Rivers inaugurates LGA election tribunals

The Rivers State government has inaugurated the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal and Election Petition Appeal Tribunal to address grievances that may arise from the just concluded local government area polls which took place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

A statement signed by the Chief Registrar, Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi on Monday said the LGA Election Tribunal and Appeal Tribunal inauguration earlier billed for Friday, October 4, was done on Monday, October 7, 2024 by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi.

According to Ihua-Maduenyi, Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart is to serve as Chairman of the Election Tribunal, while Rosemary Ibanibo, Precious Dike, Emmanuel Evans-Dappa, Menenen Poromon, Grace Ikenyiri, Benedict Neenaador Kinakah, Chief Magistrate G. S. Minanyo and Chief Magistrate Mabel Amesi would serve as members.

On the other hand, Justice Opufaa Ben-White has been appointed to serve as Chairman of the Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal, while Frank Onyiri and Justice Ibietela Madighi -Obu, would serve as members.

Ihua-Maduenyi said the Chief Judge of Rivers State advised the election tribunal and appeal Chairmen and members to be fair to all parties in the discharge of their duties.
